TWILIGHT~Isabella"Bella"Swan moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, torainy Forks,Washington, tolive with her father, Charlie. In Phoenix she was abit of anoutcast, so it surprisesher that she attracts much attentionat her newschool, and is quicklybefriended by several students. Muchto herdismay, several boys in theschool compete for shy Bella'sattention.
When Bella sits next to Edward Cullen in class on her firstdayofschool, Edward seems utterly repulsed by her. He evenattemptstochange his schedule to avoid her, leaving Bellacompletelypuzzledabout his attitude towards her. After tricking afamily friend,JacobBlack, into telling her the local tribal legends,Bella concludesthatEdward and his family are vampires. Although shewasinexplicablyattracted to him even when she thoughtEdward drank human blood, she ismuch relieved to learn that theCullenschoose to abstain from drinkinghuman blood, and drink animalbloodinstead. Edward reveals that heinitially avoided Bella becausethe scentof her blood was sodesirable. Over time, Edward and Bellafall in love.
The seemingly perfect state of their relationship is thrownintochaoswhen another vampire coven sweeps into Forks, and James,atrackervampire, decides that he wants to hunt Bella for sport.TheCullensplan to distract the tracker by splitting up Bella andEdward,andBella is sent to hide in a hotel in Phoenix. Bella then getsaphonecall from James in which he says that he has her mother, andBellamustgive herself up to James at her old dance studio, to save her.Shedoesso, and while at the dance studio, James attacks her.Edward,alongwith the rest of the Cullen family, rescue Bella beforeJames cankillher. Once they realize that James has bitten Bella's hand,Edwardsucksthe venom out of her system before it can spread and changeherinto avampire. Upon returning to Forks, Bella and Edward attendtheirpromand Bella expresses her desire to become a vampire,whichEdwardrefuses to let happen.
2) NEW MOON~Isabella "Bella" Swan is thrown an eighteenthbirthdaypartyby Alice and Edward Cullen, the vampire she loves, and therestof theirvampire family. While unwrapping a gift, she receives apapercut.Edward's brother Jasper, although attempting a non-humandiet,isoverwhelmed by the scent of blood and tries to attack Bella.Inanattempt to keep her safe from the world of vampires, EdwardtellsBellathat he no longer loves her and leaves the town ofForks,Washingtonwith his family. Bella becomes severely depressed andseekscomfortwith Jacob Black, an old family friend who eases her painoverlosingEdward.
Bella and Jacob begin spending a lot of time together, andBellasoondiscovers that the rush of adrenaline present when sheplacesherselfin dangerous situations stimulates hallucinations ofEdward'svoice.Bella begins seeking out dangerous behavior, such asridingamotorcycle, to trigger the illusions. Meanwhile, Jacob findsoutthathe is a werewolf, and eventually reveals this secret toBella.AfterBella attempts cliff-diving, she gets caught in a riptideandisrescued by Jacob.
At the same time, Alice Cullen, Edward's vampire sister whohasvisionsof the future, has a vision of Bella jumping off thecliff.PresumingBella is dead, Alice rushes to Forks to check on CharlieSwan,Bella'sfather, while Edward calls Bella's home. Jacob answersandinformsEdward that Charlie is at a funeral, referring to that of amanin townwho had died of a heart attack, but Edward draws theconclusionthat hemeans Bella's funeral. Desperate after Bella'ssupposed death,Edwardflees to Italy to see the Volturi, peace-keepingvampires whowould beable to kill Edward, granting him leave of a worldwithoutBella.
Bella and Alice rush to Italy to stop Edward, and save him beforeitistoo late. Before they leave Italy, the Volturi tell them thatBella,ahuman who knows of the existence of vampires, must either bekilledorchanged into a vampire herself. After they return toForks,Edwardexplains to Bella that he only left in order to protecther, andsheforgives him. The book ends with the Cullens voting in favorofBellabeing changed into a vampire, much to Edward's dismay.
3) ECLIPSE~ The story begins with the revelation that Seattleisbeingplagued by a string of unsolved murders, which Edwardsuspectsarebeing caused by a newborn vampire that is unable to controlitsthirst.Edward and Bella fill out college applications, whileBellaexplains toEdward her desire to see Jacob, her werewolf friend,again.Meanwhile,Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire whoishuntingBella, is back in town .AlthoughEdward fears for her safety, Bellainsists that Jacob and therest of thewerewolf pack would never harmher, and he eventually allowsher to visitJacob once in a while.
A few days later, Bella expresses her desire to have Edward makelovetoher before turning her into a vampire. Edwardinitiallyrefuses,explaining to Bella that he could very easily killher.Eventually,upon realizing how much it means to Bella, he agrees totryin thefuture as long as they are married first. Despite havinganaversion tomarriage, Bella realizes that spending eternity withEdwardis moreimportant to her than anything else and accepts hisproposal.
Bella and the Cullens realize that the murders in Seattlearebeingcommitted by Victoria and an "army" of newborn vampires.TheCullenfamily joins forces with the werewolf pack in order tocombatthisthreat. As everyone else prepares for battle, Edward andBella campupin the mountains, where they are later joined by JacobandSethClearwater, a young member of the werewolf pack, to wait outthefight.
In the morning, Jacob overhears Edward and Belladiscussingtheirengagement and becomes very upset. He threatens to jointhe fightandget himself killed because Bella doesn't love him. To stophim,Bellakisses Jacob and realizes that she loves him, too. AfterVictoriaandher army are successfully destroyed, Bella explains to Jacobthatwhileshe loves him, her love for Edward is greater and shecannotlivewithout him. Jacob, angry at Bella's decision to become avampire,runsaway in his wolf form to escape the pain he feels.
4) BREAKING DAWN~Breaking Dawn is split into three separate"books",orparts. The first part details Bella's marriage andhoneymoonwithEdward, which they spend on a private island off the coastofBrazil.Edward grants Bella's wish and makes love to her. Soonafter,Bellafinds a box of unused tampons and realizes that she ispregnant.Aftercontacting Carlisle, who confirms her belief, she andEdward plantoreturn home. Edward, concerned for her well being, urgesher to getanabortion. However, Bella wants to keep the child anddecides tocontactRosalie for support, knowing that Rosalie has alwayswantedchildren.
The second part of the novel is written from Jacob Black's pointofview,and lasts throughout Bella's pregnancy and childbirth. Thepackofwerewolves, not knowing what danger the unborn child may pose,makeplansto destroy it, even though they must kill Bella to doso.Jacobvehemently disagrees with this decision and revolts, leavingthepackto form his own with Seth and Leah Clearwater. Bella soongivesbirth,approximately a month after becoming pregnant. The babybreaksmany ofher bones, and Bella loses massive amounts of blood. Inorder tosaveher life, Edward changes her into a vampire. Jacob, who waspresentforthe birth, immediately "imprints" — an involuntary responsein whichawerewolf finds his soul mate — on Bella's newborn daughter,Renesmee.
The third section of Breaking Dawn shifts back toBella'sperspective,finding her changed into a vampire and enjoying hernewlife andabilities. However, the vampire Irina misidentifies Renesmeeasan"immortal child", a child who has been turned into avampire.Thecreation and protection of "immortal children" waspreviouslyoutlawedby the Volturi. After Irina presents her allegationto theVolturi,they plan to destroy Renesmee and the Cullens. In anattempt tosaveher, the Cullens gather vampires from around the world tostandaswitnesses and prove to the Volturi that Renesmee is notanimmortalchild. Upon confronting the gathered Cullen alliesandwitnesses, theVolturi discover that they have been misinformedandimmediatelyexecute Irina for her mistake. However, theyremainundecided onwhether Renesmee should be viewed as a threat to thesecretexistenceof vampires. At that time, Alice and Jasper, who hadleftprior to theconfrontation, return with Nahuel, a150-year-oldvampire-humancrossbreed like Renesmee. He demonstrates thatthecrossbreeds pose nothreat and the Volturi leave, knowing that theynolonger have justreason to destroy Renesmee. Bella, Edward andRenesmeereturn to theirhome, free to live their lives in peace.
5) MIDNIGHT SUN~Midnight Sun was an expected companion novel tothebookTwilight by author Stephenie Meyer. It would be a retellingoftheevents of Twilight, but written from the perspective ofEdwardCullenas opposed to that of Bella Swan. Meyer has statedthatTwilight isthe only possible book from the series that she planstorewrite fromEdward's perspective. To give them a better feelofEdward'scharacter, Meyer allowed Catherine Hardwicke, the directorofthe filmadaptation of Twilight, and Robert Pattinson, the actorplayingEdward,to read some completed chapters of the novel while theyfilmedthemovie.
